The Will of George ANDREWS

This is the Last Will and Testament : of me George ANDREWS of ffordington in the County of Dorset Currier made and published this nineteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty one.

Ffirst: I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my Executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease

Also: I give devise and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary Ann ANDREWS all that my messuage or tenement or workshops garden land and premises thereto adjoining wherein I now reside and carry on my business together with all my stock in trade debts sum and sums of money which shall be due and owing to me at the time of my decease household furniture plate linen china glass and other things in and about my said dwellinghouse for her use during her life or so long as she shall continue my widow and to be disposed of by her amongst my three children in such parts shares and proportions as she by her last Will and Testament shall direct with full power for her my said wife to carry on my said business so long as she shall think proper for the maintenance of herself and the maintenance and bringing up of my said three children

    But: in case my said wife shall deem it advisable and advantageous during her widowhood to sell and absolutely dispose of all or any part of my said messuage or tenement workshops lands and hereditaments or my said stock in trade or business or any part of my personal estate and effects it shall be lawful for her to do so with the full confidence I have in her that she will apply the monies arising from such sale to and for the furthering and carrying on my said business or any other business that she may deem best for the benefit of my said three children and for her and their maintenance and support and for promoting and facilitating such sale I direct that my said wife during her widowhood shall enter into make and execute all such contracts agreements conveyances and assurances as to her shall seem proper and I declare that the receipt of my said wife during her widowhood for the purchase money for the said hereditaments or any part thereof or for any money which shall come to her hands shall effectually discharge the purchaser or purchasers thereof or persons paying any money for the same monies and from being answerable or accountable for the misapplication or non application thereof or of any part thereof or from being obliged to see to the application thereof or of any part thereof or to enquire into the propriety or expedience of any sale or sales to be made under or by virtue of the power or powers so vested in my said wife and that no [person purchasing the same hereditaments or any part thereof shall be bound or obliged to see to the propriety or expediency of any sale or sales
    But: in case of the second marriage of my said wife then I direct that any said messuage or tenement workshops lands and hereditaments personal estate and effects or such part or parts thereof as shall not have been previously sold or disposed of by my said wife shall be equally divided between my said wife and three children or such of them my said three children as shall be living at the time of such second marriage and in the event of the death of my said wife without making any Will then I direct that my said messuage or tenement workshops land and hereditaments personal estate and effects or such part or parts thereof as shall not have been previously sold or disposed of by my said wife shall be divided between my said three children Mary, George and Georgina or such of them as shall be living at the time of such death in equal shares and if but one of them to such only one

And Lastly: I hereby nominate and appoint my said wife Mary Ann ANDREWS Executrix and my friend George WHITE of Dorchester Dorset barristers Clerk Executor in trust of this my Will hereby revoking all others by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this only to be my Last Will In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written

Proved: at London 31st January 1852 before the Judge by the oaths of Mary Ann ANDREWS Widow the Relict and George WHITE the executors to whom Admon [Administration] was granted having been first sworn by Comon [Commissioner] duly to administer


Genealogical Notes:- :

(1) Although his Will only gives his name as George Andrews his full name was George Thomas ANDREWS and according to the 1851 Census he was born in Surrey circa 1791. He was buried at Holy Trinity Church Dorchester on 22nd April 1851

(2). His three children were all baptised at Holy Trinity (1) Mary ANDREWS 27th July 1829 (2) George ANDREWS on 3rd Jan 1832 and (3) Georgina ANDREWS on 13th May 1836
