Letter of Administration - Estate of Hamnet WHITE (d.1633)

Know all men by these presents that Christian WHITE of Fordington in the County of Dorset widow & Michia [Michaes] BARNES of the same place Yeoman ---------

[Note:- The next Section is written in Latin and requires proper translation but is dated 10th August 1634.]

The Condition is such that if the above bound Christian WHITE the relict and administratrix of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Hamnet WHITE late of Fordington in the County of Dorset peculiar jurisdiction of new Deanry of Sarum & Prebendarie of Canterbury / deceased ----- do well and truly administer the goods chattels & credits of ye said deceased, That is to say, in paying his debts (if any be due) so far forward as the same goods chattels & credits will thereunto extend & ye law charge her. ALSO do make exhibit or cause to be made and exhibited into the Registry of the Right Worshipful Deane of Sarum a true and perfect Inventoryof all such goods as the said deceased died possessed of at or before the feast of St Bartholomew the Apostle [i.e. August 24th] next.

Moreover do at all times heretofore save, defend & keep harmless said most Reverend Father in God & all other his conditionaries & surrogates whatsoever for granting trust of administration & and for all other causes ensuring by reason of the same.

Lastly do come & give up in writing a true & perfect accompt of & upon her said administration when she shall thereunto be lawfully called & required And thereupon do stand to abide & perform such order final and determination concerning ye residue of the said goods as by the said most Reverend father in God his vicar general conditionaries or surrogates for the time being shall be limited & appointed then this obligation to be void XPIANE( X her mark) WHITE & Micheas BARNES

Thomas CHARGE

Impremis: this accomputant charges herself with the sum of 70^li. 14^s. 8^d [£70.14s.8d] being the true value of the goods & chattels & credits of the said deceased comprised in the Inventory hereof made and exhibited into this Court as by the said Inventory appeareth.

The Discharge:

Impremis: This accomptant craveth allowance for the funeral expenses of the said dec^d [deceased] every way expended ----- x^li [£10]

Item: This accomptant craveth allowance of the sum of x^li ten pounds of lawful ??? money which she acknowledges to be due from the said deceased to Leonard MILLAR [MILLER] of Fordington upon bond with by value of per said Administration she is to pay ----- x^li [£10]

Item: She craveth allowance of the sum of xx^s [20s.] paid by this accomptant for several small debts owing by her said deceased at the time of his death. ----- xx^s [20s.]

Item: for the fees of the administratrix under seal drawing writing and engrossing the inventories of the said deceased -----xv^s [15s.]

Item: for drawing this accompt duplicate registering and engrossing the same see the ??? of under seal & other necessary charges in and about the same ----xxvj^s [26s.]

When these are added together we arrive at the previously stated total £70.14s 8d

Genealogical Notes:-

(1). Hamnet WHITE was the 5th child from the marriage of John WHITE Senior (d.1600) and Elizabeth (d.1607). He was buried at St Georges Church in Fordington on 10th January 1633/4. Link to his place in the History of The WHITE Family of Fordington

(2) Hamnet WHITE married Christian BARNES at St Georges Church in Fordington on 28th Feb 1608 Christian BARNES was the daughter of William BARNES of Fordington. She had at least two sisters Mary and Katherine and a brother Micheas BARNES. On 16th June 1609 when a relative John BARNES of Fordington died they each inherited 2 sheep.
