Charter of John Hert.

William Bradeston, son and heir of Adam Bradeston of Brodemayne, grants to John Hert and his heirs a burgage with curtilage lying on the east side of South Street, Dorchester, between the tenement of William Britt on the north, and the walls of the community of the town [muros communitatis ville) on the south, which descended to him on the death of his father aforesaid. Warranty. Witnesses, Robert Sutton and John Blount, then Bailiffs of the Town, William atte Naysshe, John Duddill, John Wespray, Thomas Gardyner, Thomas Bertram, and others. Charter of William Codemor.

John Blount, of Dorchester, grants to William Codemor, dictus Walyssh and his heirs, his tenement with curtilage, situate on the north side of West Street (vico regio occidentali), Dorchester, between the tenement of Stephen Gille, clerk, on the east, and the tenement of Robert Hayne on the west, which he had by the grant of Henry Raynold, son of John Raynald, of Dorchester, to hold of the King in capite, and by discharging for the said John and his heirs all the rents and services due from that tenement to the Fraternity of St. Mary in the church of St. Peter, of Dorchester. Warranty. Witnesses, Robert Sutton, then Bailiff, Peter Blount, John Duddill, William Ayssh (i.e.ASH), Willlam Pullare, William Wyther, Henry Broke, and others. Charter of John Wespray and John Duddiix.

John Bochard, junior, grants to John Wespray and John Duddill and their heirs, a burgage situate on the north side of West Street, Dorchester, between the tenement late of John Chuse on the west, and the tenement of William Wyther on the east, to hold of the King in capita. Warranty. Dorchester, 9th May, 18 Richard II. [1395]. Witnesses, Robert Sutton and John Blount, then Bailiffs of the Borough, Peter Blount, William atte Naysshe, William Wither, Thomas Gardyner, John Crauell, and many others. Livery of seisin the same day.
4.
Seisin of the heir of John Whittok.

To the Court held at Dorchester, loth May, 18 Richard II. [1395], before the Bailiffs abovewritten, came Cristina Diluertones, daughter and heir of John Whittok, and claimed to have free seisin of a tenement on the south side of West Street, Dorchester, between the tenement late of John Chuse on the west, and the tenement late of Richard Foul on the east, which had descended to her after the death of her said father. On testimony that she was next heir of the said John, and of full age, she was admitted and seised by the Bailiffs into the said tenement, and paid her relief.

Will, of Agnes Hamondes.

To the Court held 26th July, 19 Richard II. [1395] came John Fyuyan and John Duddill, executors of the will of Agnes Hamondes, and exhibited and proved the said will before the Bailiffs, according to the custom of the town, which will was dated 4th July, 1395, and contained inter alia, " I give to John Syward and his heirs all that place in the south corner of High Street, Dorchester, which I had of the legacy of Robert Hamond, my late husband, to hold of the King in capite Also I give to John Fyuyan and John Duddill and their heirs a tenement situate on the north side of East Street, Dorchester, between the tenement of the Prior of Mayne on the west and the tenement of the Prior of St. John of Dorchester on the east, to sell and dispose of it for the welfare of my soul, and the souls of those for whom I am bound. Also I give to John Fyuyan and John Duddill and their heirs, two tenements situate on the west side of North Street, between the tenement of the Rector of St. Peter's Church, and the tenement of Edward Mason, to sell and dispose of them, as above."
In virtue of this will, John Syward, John Fyuyan, and John Duddill were seised of the tenements, by the Bailiffs. [Cf. 14.)[Note:- Numbers have been placed at the end of some of these documents for the purpose of cross-reference. ]

Charter of John Fyuyan.

Agnes, late wife of Thomas Helier, William Dreu, John Duddill and Henry Tanner, grant to Master John Fyuyan and his heirs their tenement in Dorchester, situate in a certain corner on the east side of All Saints' Church, between the King's way which leads towards la Durnegate, on the west, and the tenement of the said William Dreu on the east, which they lately had by the legacy of Thomas Helier, late husband of Agnes, to hold of the King in capite. Witnesses, Thomas Gardyner and William Adam, then Bailiffs of the Borough, Peter Blount, John Blount, William Aysshe, William Pudele, John Crauel and others. Dorchester, Monday in the Feast of St. Dunstan, Bishop, 16 Richard II. [1393]- Livery of seisin.
7.
Will, of William Fraunceys.

To the Court held the Monday next after the Feast of St. Michael, came Magota Fraunceys and John Sherere, executors of the will of William Fraunceys, and proved the said will, etc., which was dated 20th October, 1394, and con- tained, inter alia, " I give to Magota, my wife, and her heirs, my burgage in Dorchester, situate in a certain lane called Durnelane, between the burgage of John Shudde Dorchester on the east, and the burgage of John Fauconer on the west."
In virtue of this will Magota was seised by the Bailiffs into the said tenement, and did fealty.

Charter of John Skynner.

John Shudde of Dorchester grants to John Skinner and his heirs, his burgage with curtilage in the Borough of Dorchester, situate on the south side of a lane which leads from South Street towards la Durnegate, between the burgage of John Syward on the west, and the burgage of the Prior of Christ Church on the east, which he had by the feoffment of Alice Coles and Matilda Heryngys — to hold of the King in capite. Warranty. Witnesses, Robert Sutton, John Blount, then Bailiffs of the Borough, Peter Blount, John Duddill, William Ayssh, William Pulhare, John Wespray, and others. Will of John Crauel.

To the Court held 28th November, 19 Richard II. [1395], came Joan, late wife of John Crauel, and Henry Crauel, executors of the said John, and proved the said will, etc., dated 6th June, 1394, containing, inter alia, " I give to Joan, my wife, my tenement I inhabit in the town of Dorchester, for her life, and after her death to Henry, my son, and his heirs, situate on the north side of High East Street (alto vico regio orientali), between the tenement of John Syward on the east, and the tenement of Agnes Helieres on the west. Also I give to Joan, my wile, and her heirs, my tenement on the south side of High East Street, Dorchester, between the tenement of John Crauel on the east, and the tenement of Thomas Wollepenne on the west. Also I give my burgage, situate in the street which leads towards the Friars Minors of Dorchester, to Joan, my wife, Henry Crauel, my son, and the heirs of Henry, to hold my obit annually for the said tenement for ever." Robert Grenelef, dictus Baker, of Dorchester, grants to John Lamere, Vicar of Wynterborne Martytn, and Henry Broke, and their heirs, a burgage or tenement with curtilage in Dorchester, situate on the south side of West Street, between the tenement of William Wyther on the east, and the tenement of the same Robert on the west, late of Adam Honymoure, to hold of the King in capite. Charter of John Lamere and Henry Broke made to Robert Grenelefe.

John Lamere, Vicar of Wynterborne Martyn, and Henry Broke grant to Robert Grenelef, dictus Baker, of Dorchester, and Joan, his wife, daughter of William Pudelynere, of Beamynstre (i.e. Beaminster), and the heirs of their bodies lawfully begotten, the premises recited in the foregoing charter. Should they lie without such issue, the premises to revert to the said Robert and his heirs. Warranty. Witnesses, as above. Dorchester, Monday next after the quinzene of St. Hillary, 9 Richard II. Charter of John Shirewode and Alice, his wife.

William Wyther grants to John Shirewode and Alice, lis wife, and their heirs, a messuage in Dorchester, in North Street, which leads towards the Friars Minors, between les Nyweshoppes opposite the Cross there, between the shop of the Fraternity of St. Mary, on the east, and the land of the Community of the town of Dorchester on the west, to hold of the King in capite. Warranty. Witnesses, John Blount and William Nagard, then Bailiffs of the Borough, Peter Blount, William Ayssh, John Duddill, John Wespray, Thomas Gardynere and others. Charter of John Roogh.

John Fyuyan and John Duddill grant to John Roogh and Joan, his wife, and their heirs, a moiety of their tenement with curtilage in Dorchester, situate on the west side of North Street, between the tenement of the Prior of St. John on the south, and the tenement of Walter Peytenyn on the north, in which tenement William Brut and Matilda, his wife, hold of them the other moiety for their lives. Also an annual rent of six shillings arising from the other moiety, with the reversion of the moiety after the death of the said William and Matilda — to hold of the King in capite. Release made to John Fyuyan.

Agnes, late wife of Robert Hamond, had left by will to John Fyuyan and John Duddill, and their heirs, a tenement on the north side of East Street, Dorchester, between the tenement of the Prior of Mayne on the west, and the tenement of the Prior of St. John, of Dorchester, on the east. Now John Duddill releases, for himself and his heirs, to the said John Fyuyan, all right and claim in the same. Witnesses, John Blount and William Nagard, then Bailiffs of the town, Peter Blount, William Aysshe, John Wespray, Thomas Gardyner, Henry Crauel, William Wyther, and many others. Charter of John Fyuyan.

Peter Blount, of Dorchester, grants to John Fyuyan and his heirs a burgage with dovehouse, situate on the east side of South Street, Dorchester, between the tenement of the Abbot of Abbotsbury on the south, and the tenement of John Davy on the north. Warranty. Witnesses, John Blount, William Nagard, Bailiffs of the Borough, William Ayssh, William Pulhare, William Wither, Henry Broke, Thomas Gardyner, William Adam, John Wespray, Thomas Bertram, md many others. Will of John Fytheler

To the Court held 22nd May, 19 Richard II. [1396] came Margaret, late wife of John Fitheler, and his executrix, and proved his Will, etc., dated Thursday next after the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle, 1395, containing inter alia, " I bequeath to Margaret, my wife, and her heirs, all my barn with curtilage, situate in Piselane, between Robert Portland on the west and my tenement on the east ; and I bequeath to William, my son, and his heirs, a burgage adjacent with curtilage, situate between the said barn on the west and another tenement of mine on the east. Also I give to Richard, my son, and his heirs, a burgage with curtilage, situate between my tenement on the west, and the tenement of William Nagard on the east. Also I bequeath a burgage with curtilage, seven feet in breadth, situate in a lane which leads from All Saints' Church towards la Durnegate, lying between the tenement of Stephen Gille and a tenement of Henry Child, for a priest to celebrate daily for one year." By virtue of this will, Margaret, William and Richard were seised of their tenements by the Bailiffs. William is aged eight years, Richard two. (C/. 18.)

Will, of John Sherere.

To the Court, 3rd July, 20 Richard II. [1396]. came John Wespray and Joan, late wife of John Sherere, his executors, and proved his will, dated 3rd January, 1395, containing, inter alia, " I give to Joan, my wife, and Joan, my daughter, and their heirs, my burgage, situate on the south side of Durnelane, between the place of John Shudde on the west, md a lane which leads towards la Durnegate, in a certain corner opposite the tenement late John Warmwelle's." By virtue of this will they were seised by the Bailiffs in the burgage aforesaid. (C/. 245, 246.)

Margaret, relict of John Fitheler, in her widowhood, grants to John Neel, of Portland, and his heirs, her burgage with curtilage, situate in Pisselane, Dorchester, between the tenement of Robert Portland on the west, and the tenement late of John Fitheler on the east, which burgage she had by the legacy of John Fitheler, late her husband, to hold of the King in capite. William Ayssh, of Dorchester, grants to William Ropere, Tanner, and his heirs, the annual rent of a rose, to be received on the Feast of St. John Baptist from his tenement and curilage in Dorchester, situate on the north side of Durne lane, letween the tenement late of John Crauel on the west, and he tenement which John Carpunter holds on the east, together with the reversion of the said tenement after the death of John Draau, of Fordyngton, and Julian, his wife, to hold of the King in capite. Joan, late the wife of John Crauel, and Henry Crauel, son and heir of the said John, grant to William Ayssh, of Dorchester, and his heirs, an annual rent of six shillings, issuing and to be received from their tenement with curtilage in Dorchester, situate on the north side of High East Street (in alto vico regio orientali) between the tenements of John Syward on either side, to hold of the King in capite. Power of recovery by distress. Warranty. A penny delivered to William Ayssh nomine attornacionis et seisine. Henry Crauel, of Dorchester, and Alice, his wife, grant to William Ayssh, of Dorchester, and his heirs, an annual rent of three pence to be received from a tenement with curtilage in Dorchester, which William Hopere and Matilda, his wife, hold of them for their lives, with the reversion of the same, situate on the south side of the lane which leads towards la Durnegate, between the tenement of the Prior of Christ Church of Twynham on the west, and the tenement of John Mountagu on the east, to hold of the King in capite. Warranty. Witnesses, John Blount and William Nagard, then Bailiffs, Peter Blount, William Pulhare, John Duddill, Thomas Gardyner, John Wespray, and others. Will of Henry Calche.

To the Court, on Monday next before the feast of the Annunciation B.V.M., 20 Richard II. [1397], came Margery, late the wife of Henry Calche, and Henry Crauel, executors of the will of the said Henry Calche, and proved his will, dated 27th January, 1396, containing, inter alia, " I bequeath to Margery, my wife, and her heirs, an annual rent of 13s. 4d., issuing from a tenement in Dorchester which Geoffrey Barbour and Cristina, his wife, hold of me for their lives, with the reversion of the said tenement, to hold of the King in capite, which tenement is situate in the parish of Holy Trinity, Dorchester, nigh the burial-ground of the said church, on the east side." By the payment of one penny, the said Geoffery attorned to the said Margery. [Cf. 27.)

Charter of Robert Calche, concerning an Annual Rent.

Margery, relict of Henry Calche, in pure widowhood grants to Robert Calche and his heirs the aforesaid annual rent of 13s. 4d., with reversion of the tenement, to hold of the King in capite.
