HAIGHTON,Albert Henry - Gunner No.1451983 52nd Anti Tank
Regiment Royal Artillery. Born in London on 29th July 1903, son of
Edward Haighten, a carman in 1901, and his wife Mary Ann Allam.
Immigration records show that from May 1911 to February 1914 the family
had travelled to New York U.S.A. no doubt seeking a new life, but
returned, and on 29th August 1914 Mary and seven children including
Albert aged 11 were admitted to the Newington Workhouse, Southwark, so
life was obviously hard. In 1921, Albert aged 17 was an out of work fish
porter living at home with family at 31 Wickham Place, Southwark, before
he married on 14th December 1924 Emily Jane Watling at Southwark. In
1939, they were living at Wickwood Street, Brixton, London. Albert died
at the Radipole Sanitorium, Weymouth, cause not known, and his probate
to his widow Emily on 2nd July 1945 was for £279. Their address quoted
was The Knapp, Studland. |
