HAIGHTON,Albert Henry - Gunner No.1451983 52nd Anti Tank Regiment Royal Artillery. Born in London on 29th July 1903, son of Edward Haighten, a carman in 1901, and his wife Mary Ann Allam. Immigration records show that from May 1911 to February 1914 the family had travelled to New York U.S.A. no doubt seeking a new life, but returned, and on 29th August 1914 Mary and seven children including Albert aged 11 were admitted to the Newington Workhouse, Southwark, so life was obviously hard. In 1921, Albert aged 17 was an out of work fish porter living at home with family at 31 Wickham Place, Southwark, before he married on 14th December 1924 Emily Jane Watling at Southwark. In 1939, they were living at Wickwood Street, Brixton, London. Albert died at the Radipole Sanitorium, Weymouth, cause not known, and his probate to his widow Emily on 2nd July 1945 was for £279. Their address quoted was The Knapp, Studland.
 
SHAW, Roy - Private No.4344107 5th East Yorks (Duke of Yorks Own) Regiment. Born at Grimsby, Lincolnshire in June 1921 son of James Arthur Shaw, a salesman, and his wife Gertrude Mary Pickering. In 1939 the family were living at Egglington Avenue, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire before Roy died on 1st August 1940 - I failed to find the place or cause of is death, which was registered at Poole.
